The Métis Nation of Ontario’s Region 5 hosted its first-ever Rendezvous on July 25, 2026, at Champlain Park in North Bay. The gathering brought Métis families from Mattawa, Sudbury, North Bay, and across the region together to reconnect and celebrate the Métis way of life. The day featured live entertainment, vendors, art activities, cultural learning, and opportunities to connect with MNO programs and services.
The event opened with welcoming remarks from Suzanne Fortin, Region 5 PCMNO Councillor, who greeted attendees, outlined the day’s events, and introduced MNO President Margaret Froh. President Froh addressed the gathering, sharing words to mark the occasion. Attendees also heard from Sudbury Métis Council President Billy Lefebvre, North Bay Métis Council President Stephanie Bergman, Mattawa Métis Council President Nelson Montreuil, North Bay Mayor Peter Chirico, and MPP for Nipissing Hon. Vic Fedeli.
“We were so excited to welcome citizens and community members from across Region 5 to the inaugural Rendezvous in North Bay,” said Region 5 PCMNO Councillor Suzanne Fortin. “This gathering provided a space to come together, celebrate our shared Métis culture and way of life, and strengthen the connections that make our community so vibrant.”
Throughout the day, guests enjoyed a variety of activities. Live music by Gerry and the Mystics provided an energetic soundtrack to the day. Nelson Montreuil welcomed visitors with a trapper and fur workshop, while Stephanie Bergman guided interested attendees on a walk along the historic La Vase River. Guests also had the opportunity to connect with the Great Lakes Advisory Group, MNO branches, Registry, and representatives from the Summer Youth Program.
The Region 5 Rendezvous also supported Métis businesses from across the region, with vendors helping create a welcoming and memorable experience for all who attended.
In the spirit of Métis hospitality, the community came together over a lunchtime meal prepared by Lise and Kaelen Hughson of Frankie’s Cart.
This special event would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of Regional Manager Melanie Rose, volunteers, council members, regional leadership, partners, and sponsors. Maarsii to everyone who contributed their time and energy to make the day such a success.
