Métis Community Diversion Program

The Métis Community Diversion Program offers a restorative justice alternative to traditional criminal court processes for Indigenous youth and adults in Ontario. It emphasizes accountability, repairing harm, and reintegration through culturally grounded, community-based approaches.

Who Can Be Referred?

  • Self-identified Indigenous clients (First Nations, Inuit, Métis)
  • Youth and adults facing criminal charges
  • Individuals willing to take responsibility

Program Objectives

  • Promote accountability & repair harm
  • Reduce recidivism rates
  • Support culturally appropriate reintegration

How Diversion Works

  1. Obtain client consent
  2. Complete intake assessment
  3. Hold a Diversion Circle (Action Plan)
  4. Submit Circle Report to the Crown
  5. Post-diversion check-ins (3–6 months)
Advocacy Options

We actively work with justice stakeholders to explore diversion. If Crown consent is not granted, clients can still choose to participate voluntarily in an "Informal Diversion."

Referral Process

Referrals are welcome at any stage. When submitting, please provide the client's name, contact information, charge sheet, and full disclosure if it is available.
